Cell West Group has been making the rounds on freebies sites and forums and it’s upsetting me that people are falling for it. It looks exactly like many other fake freebies from what I call the “WebSEO Fake Freebie Network” (previous fakes here). While for the most part these are harmless, but you never know what people will do with your information so I’m calling this out as a fake sooner than later.

Here is the URL if you want to follow along, however I urge you not to share your information with this website: https://cellwestgroup.com/products/10148-anti-slip-mat-sample/

Let’s dig into why this is likely to be a fake

  1. If you look up their address, it’s a real office suite address, the company LLC was a real company according to Buzzfile started in 2015. But now it appears to have changed website hosting providers according to this domain name history file here. Hmm, I think I saw this tactic from Fire N Spice’s fake freebie here. It’s a common tactic for hackers and scammers to take a trustworthy business that expired or forgot to pay for their web hosting bill, then they use the website for scamming people. That is what my gut says Cell West Group is doing right now.
  2. The contact us page has a clear cut SEO optimization at the bottom (where it says “Also we can send you free product samples, in exchange for your feedback.”) to help rank the fake freebie when you search “free product samples” in Google. That is clearly the entire goal of this website, profit via scamming Google to rank higher. Specifically for freesamplesmail dot com and their network of fake freebies.
  3. If you sign up for the free sample form, it say to expect “measuring tape” – this makes it seem like it’s connected to a fake measuring tape offer, and there are a few fake measuring tape samples out there. The disconnect alone from “pappers” to “measuring tape” shows that this person trying to gather your information is simply lazy or doesn’t know English well enough perhaps.
  4. Lastly the hard proof here that you can verify yourself. Go to freesamplesmail dot com and find the advertising code ID number by right clicking and viewing the source code, then match it to the advertising ID on cellwestgroup dot com (only on the freebie pages). You’ll notice they both match. Well imagine that, looks like Cell West Group is operated by a freebie site which validates my theory that this site was a real company and now it’s hijacked for profit and maybe worse. Check it out yourself.

I think we can safely say this is fake. Avoid it. If you signed up for this one, my hunch is you’ll start getting emails from freesamplesmail dot com and other spammy emails. I strongly suggest you unsubscribe and report that email as spam or add filters to avoid them from coming into your mailbox. Not too bad, but it’s not a good sign it’s a real freebie at all. Worst case is you’ll get sketchy links from fake PayPal/Amazon/other websites. Don’t trust links that ask for your password or any personal information, ever. Thank you for reading my fake freebie rant.
