37 Year Old Mother of Two: Fashion Advice
I am a 37 year old mother of two. For fashion, I usually buy clothes after Christmas. That is when the best sales are. I buy classic pieces that tend to stay in style. I do not want to dress to young for my age either. For my children, I usually buy their clothes at the end of the season and save them for the following year.
I have been getting my haircut for the last 2 years at Douglas J Aveda Institute. It is $16 for a head massage, shampoo, condition, cut, and blow dry. It is a school but the services are checked by a licensed instructor. I have never had a bad cut yet! It is also a great place to get pedicures. You receive a bottle of polish when you do. I usually take advantage of the bonus buys or free gift with purchase. Sephora also has excellent sales after Christmas. If you become a member, you will receive a gift on your birthday and also you accumulate points for free products.
Thanks Dear!
Budget Conscious Fashion for Middle Age Moms
If you’ve been on the Mommy-track for a while, there is no reason why you have to give up fashion, even if you’re approaching (or over age of 40).
Just remember that not everyone can wear the latest fashion trends, nor should they. However, there are many ways to look classically elegant and stylish, even with limited time and an even more limited budget. Before you add to your wardrobe, you need to assess what you actually have stored away in those closets and drawers. So spend a few hours sorting through your current stash and ruthlessly get rid of anything that doesn’t fit or you haven’t worn in the last two seasons. (Donate these items to charity for a tax donation.)
Make another pile for items you love, but may need some minor repairs, such as ripped seams or missing buttons. Then arrange the remaining items according to color and clothing type. This gives you a good visual indication of what you might need to supplement to what remains in your closet. Now it’s time for the fun part – adding to your wardrobe. Here are some timeless tips to help you stretch your budget and keep you looking good.
• Read sales flyers. Scrutinize all the flyers and newspaper inserts from various department stores and mass merchandisers to check their weekly sales. Compare prices and don’t ever buy anything at full price!
• Check the store’s online site. Many brick-and-mortar stores have the exact same items selling for even less on the web.
• Use coupon codes. If buying items online, look for coupon codes for extra savings or free shipping. Do a Google search for coupon codes and you’ll come up with dozens of sites that aggregate all available discounts.
• Frequent thrift stores. Many of the shops run by Goodwill, the Salvation Army or other charitable organizations carry new merchandise at deep discounts. More and more folks are finding thrift stores to be their favorite place for fashionable clothing bargains.
• Yard sales yield bargains. You’d be surprised at the deals you’ll find at neighborhood yard sales, where people try to sell clothing they thought they’d love but end up never wearing. Now just because you’ve found some good bargains, it doesn’t mean the style will work for you. For middle-aged women and beyond, think simple and chic.
• Choose classic solids. Beige, camel, brown, gray, navy, and red are timeless and can combine with many of the items already in your closet. Black and white is always appropriate.
• Choose classic shapes. Shirtdresses, A-line skirts, pea coats and jeans are all timelessly youthful. You can modernize classics with low-cost trendy accessories.
• Go minimalist. Simple and functional is best, so go for minimalist details. Choose zippers over buttons to make a style statement.
• Steer away from clothes your mother would wear. Large prints, gaudy trim and extensive detailing shows your age. Keep away from shawls, which will make you look grandmotherly.
• Accentuate your positive physical attributes. If you have great legs, wear shorter skirts, but not so short that they are considered minis.
• Cover up your problem areas. If your arms are flabby (a problem for many older women), steer away from sleeveless tops. If you have a tiny tummy, don’t wear low-rise slacks.
It’s not difficult to look stylish and chic on a budget while gracefully living through middle age. However, it may take a little more effort. When in doubt, ask your teen-age daughter for help! Not only will she be able to give you some honest fashion advice, it will provide for some real mother-daughter bonding time. And you know she’ll be proud to appear in public with you!
Mom Style Fashion Tips
Are you a mom that finds yourself staring blankly into your closet and wondering to yourself, “What am I going to wear?” In this difficult economy most women find it hard to keep up with fashion trends. Following some simple and low or no cost techniques can help transform your wardrobe to uplift your spirits without making you bankrupt. The secret is to look stylish and elegant, don’t follow all of the fashion trends. You should concentrate more on creating s sense of style not fashion victim. Nothing is more ridiculous than a women who does not dress her age, but that does not mean that you have to be frumpy either!
A woman in her 30s, 40s or 50s should know enough about her body to begin to understand which cuts and colors flatter her most. Stick with them, don’t let some neophyte cover model shame you into thinking you are not wearing the “right” clothes! Revitalize your clothes. If you have a cardigan that has color matching buttons that you are tired of revitalize it. Even a person who has never picked up a sewing needle and thread can sew on a button if you try!
Go to your local fabric store and purchase buttons of a different style or color. Or if you really are really pressed for time, purchase button covers that simply slip over already existing buttons. Putting pearlized buttons on an old cardigan will completely change the look of the sweater that you have been wearing for a while, transforming it into a wardrobe piece. Avoid the uniform look. If you always wear a blouse with a certain skirt you are falling into the wardrobe trap of uniform dressing.
Mix it up. Do not wear that same blouse with that same skirt. Wear it with something that you have never worn with it before. This will make you look at your clothes in a whole new light. Just because you bought two items together does not mean they need to be pared together forever. This is a no cost way to “refresh” your wardrobe without spending a dime. Next week mix it up again! Once a season edit your wardrobe. Does something no longer fit? If you cannot alter it or pay to have it altered don’t wear it! No matter what size you are wearing make sure it fits you properly.
Clothing that is too tight, or too baggy tends to make one look older or frumpy and definitely not stylish. In conclusion you can look stylish regardless of your age or wallet size. By revitalizing some of your existing wardrobe, mixing up your outfits in new combinations and always wearing clothes that fit you well, will ensure that you always look good!
