Modern Style Tips From The Internet Gurus
The question is often asked, “How should a woman over the age of 35 dress”? I always respond, “Anyway she wants to”. However, there are laws to that statement. Let me elaborate a little. I think every woman should dress appropriately.
I do not approve of any woman flaunting too much skin. I am a firm believer, that less is more. So, with that being said, let’s look at some recent questions posted on Cafemom.com. Lots of girls are concerned that their mothers are dressing too young, and too stylish for their age. The problem with this is that most of the clothes designed for today are geared at the younger age. Why? Because they are the age group that spends the most money. More and more stores, however, are starting to cater to an older age group of women. Old Navy, a store that carries very fashionable merchandise, at low prices, has a very wide range of styles available for this summer’s season. The thing I like about Old Navy is that you can actually go into this store and SHOP. You can buy two to three tops, two to three pairs of shorts, flip flops, a matching bag and still not be broke!
For this season, Old Navy is promoting summer dresses. The dresses are designed for women of all ages. To promote these dresses, they have created “life like” mannequins using humor to gain attention. The great part of this is that the mannequins are created as families, showing moms wearing the dresses. The dresses are very stylish, meaning you can wear them for daytime and nighttime activities. It is possible to dress them up with heels or down with a simple pair of flip flops. Another thing I noticed about Old Navy’s Website is that the models appear to be of an older age. I like this. It makes women over 35 comfortable enough to shop there. I believe that their clothing line, be it dresses, swimwear, shorts, jeans and tee shirts, enable all women to find something that they will enjoy. Regardless of the dress, both older women and young women should look classy, respectable and comfortable… without the sweats!
Recessionistas: Coining A New Budget Term
Recessionistas out there need to know the most stylish and affordable places to shop and what to look for. Realistically, you’re a girl that’s not going to spend more than $50 on a pair of jeans, right?
Especially since you know you’re going to lose those 10 extra pounds you promised yourself you would. The three best places to find affordable jeans in your area are: Target, Wal-Mart, Kohls and K-Mart. Times have changed. Five years ago I wouldn’t be recommending these places for quality, designer-looking products. These stores have redefined themselves and become more stylish, more sophisticated. All of these stores have commissioned well-known designers to create affordable lines for people just like us. Proenza Schouler, Isaac Mizrahi, Vera Wang, and Jaclyn Smith are all amazing designers that have partnered with these stores to give you the best deals. So the next time you’re at Target picking up some detergent or toilet paper, wander over to the jeans and check them out. Look at the wash, darker always looks more expensive and classy.
Check out the rise, somewhere between low rise and high rise is the most classic and will typically be the best fit. One thing, make sure they are long enough, even a little too long. Most jeans shrink in length no matter how much you spend on them and if they’re too long after you throw them in the dryer, you can always spend $10 to get them tailored. Ladies, jeans are an essential wardrobe item but there’s no reason you should be spending enough to buy a whole wardrobe on one pair. Good Luck!
Make Up Tips for Aging Americans
Makeup With aging, the skin is drying more and more, loses it’s elasticity and becomes thinner. Women over 35 years require an intensive skin care program. To clean their skin more gently, because the skin is more fragile and has the tendency to lower. To use a remove makeup milk that cleans the impurities of the skin, then to apply a tonic lotion without alcohol that will revive the face. Regarding hydration, things are not so simple.
You should not hesitate to use special anti-aging products that contain both hydrating oils with lifting effect, and vitamins (A, Q10 plus, B, E, etc.) Regarding makeup, it is recommended that no matter of the foundation cream, it has to be with lifting effect. For dry skin, the foundation cream should be fat in order to provide protection and to feed the skin. For greasy skin, the foundation cream should be non-fat, so no oil in composition, having the effect of powder. The neck and cleavage must also be hydrated with lifting effect products accompanied by circular movements.
The double chin can be hidden with the application of a darker foundation cream or powder. Do not forget the eye area where the skin is very thin, because there are almost no fat tissues. Therefore, the anti-circle you choose should be with a double effect: to cover and to iluminate the skin. It is usually applied over the foundation cream on the circles. If you deal with wrinkled eyelids, you should use mat and pearled makeup because they create luminosity and the enlargement of the eye.
The makeup should not be strident because this kind of makeup brigs out all the flaws. Lips need daily care by using special balsams, chosen depending on the degree of aging. For day, you should always apply either gloss in natural shades or long lasting lipsticks that hydrate. For evening, lipstick shades may be darker, according to the occasion. Resting, nutrition rich in fruits, vegetables and minerals and removing makeup every evening are essential in keeping the firmness of the skin for older aged women.
Growing Older and Growing Stylish
As women grow older, they sometimes find it difficult to remain involved in the ever-changing world of fashion. This is particularly true for women in their mid-thirties and upwards. As a stay-at-home mom of two boys, I find it difficult to dress in an appropriate way, keeping stylish, but not overly trendy or flashy. Finances play a huge role in what thirty-somethings can wear who are at home moms. The absence of two incomes can mean compromising fashion and style for function and durability. There is good news for women over the age of 35 who want to stay fashion-forward.
There are a number of boutique-type stores with lower price tags which allow women the luxury of high style without the couture pricetag. It is important for older women to remember, however, when entering these stores that they are not trying to dress the part of a twenty-something club-goer. Choosing moderately conservative styles to flatter the body and shape is important to remember, as is choosing the right outfit for certain occasions. There are also wonderful websites which allow a woman to address her own personal style and body shape while maintaining a budget.
Sites like Myshape.com take a woman’s exact measurements and body type and find clothing and sizes suitable to her particular style. This site is catered toward a fashion-forward woman in her mid to late thirties on a budget. While there are a number of higher priced quality items which are available for a splurge, there are also a wide variety of sale items and opportunities to get large discounts for purchases, as well as free shipping and a satisfaction guarantee. Other sites such as the Budget Fashionista also give great tips to older women for dressing their age while accenting their own personal styles.
Budget Fashionista gives a lot of advice on beauty tips, great deals and sales, and the best places to find a great wardrobe to work specifically for the refined woman. There are a number of ways the woman in her prime can find great bargain fashions to work with her particular body type and fashion style. Websites and personal shoppers, as well as low-cost boutique stores can add fun, flirty fashion accents to any woman’s wardrobe, particularly for women ages 35 and up!
Fashion Tips for Finer Aged Women
If you think that, because you’re – pick one – 40+, 50+, 60+, 70+, 80+year old woman, you can’t wear the new hairstyles modeled by 20+ women, here’s a newsflash for you: YOU’RE WRONG! Age has very little to do with a good hairstyle.
Many hairstyles are classics; look at Queen Elizabeth, for instance. She’s been wearing her regal style for years, and it suits her. The short full cut favored by Princess Diana, the gamine look worn so successfully by Audrey Hepburn , the thick, spiky dark locks Liza Minelli made famous, Edith Head’s dark bangs, Jane Fonda’s fabulous shag in “Klute,” and Barbra Streisand’s sleek long bob are all classic styles.
Those of us over 40 can honestly say that we’ve seen hairstyles come and go, and have also seen styles of our youth repeated years later. The new hair products alone make some of the styling we enjoy today possible. Back when I started going to what was then known as a “beauty parlor,” the choices were pretty slim; a basic haircut, a poodle perm, some pretty lightless all-over permanent coloring, and shellac-based hairspray. Hairstyle Choices Now that we are all alive and well in the 2000s, we have more hairstyle choices than ever.
You can see wonderful styles everywhere—on magazine covers, newspapers, talk shows, soaps, TV sitcoms, etc. But the disturbing truth is that you mainly see these fabulous styles on young women. Does this mean that, after 30, our hair choices go in the proverbial dustbin?
Absolutely not! A good hairstyle lends itself to many variations, and is not limited to certain ages. Yes, of course there are some styles that are definitely too young–for example, girly little ponytails high on either side of the head, secured with pink plastic bows probably aren’t going to work for someone over the age of 9. Do Your Homework So, what does the smart, good-looking, stylish woman in her 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and up do to get a trendy new style? Simple: choose a style that you like, and one that you think will work well with your type of hair. As always, do your homework before you see your stylist:
1. Keep your mind open to the possibilities. Get a good idea of what you want, but keep your stylist’s advice in mind on what might work well for you.
2. Take the time to discuss your own lifestyle with regard to hair—your personality, how much time you have to devote to haircare in the mornings, and so on.
3. Bring some pictures with you of the kinds of styles you like. With these in mind, your stylist can better create your own style.
4. Don’t let yourself be shampooed right away. Talk over what you want while your hair is dry so that your stylist can see your hair in its natural state.
5. Once you have your new style, give it some time before you make your final decision; it takes a while to get used to something new. But if after a few days you are still not sure, go right back to your stylist to get help on how to make the style work better for you.

Don’t Neglect Yourself
Women whose age are in the range of thirty-five to fifty-five have a general feeling of neglect since their children are grown-up and independent in their decisions. They are in the midst of their successful career which becomes stagnant after time and life becomes almost meaningless unless they realize that life begins at this age and specialized lifestyle is available to surmount the limitations of middle age. During her prime years, a woman tries everything fashionable and she knows what will suit her body. She is at the zenith of her life with adequate income, self-confident, poised, creative and well-experienced that reflects from practice.
She longs for youth to overcome the drawbacks of increasing age like hearing or visual defects, gray hair, wrinkles, infirmity and physical weakness. Older women should select flattering clothes that are not too revealing and should depict shifting vogues in contemporary fashion. Costumes should be versatile, cheerfully colorful and complement broad waistlines. Designer handbags and shoes must harmonize with the elegant tailor-made or readymade dresses and must be huge since their baggage is generally heavy.
Matching jewelry like necklace, bracelet, earring, rings and other ornaments maximize the beauty of costumes and adequate variety of these are available in the market that suit all ages. Several popular fashion stores sell luxurious and elegant dresses for a discount at selective seasons. While dressing up for outdoor activities, older women aged above 30’s must avoid loose-fitting and baggy clothes unless it matches their figure. Pants are often better than skirts which make the wearer look older. Black color looks good on elderly women when combined with almost every color. They should always maintain their weight since obese women have relatively less diversity in fashion. They should avoid excessive facial makeup which looks horrendous on senior women.
Black and white color combinations on check and stripe designs generally suit people of any age. The overall concern while dressing is that low-budget fashionable dresses are amply available in the garments market that can be chosen by women above late 30’s. They should avoid glamorous and ruffled-type dresses. Ponytails and short hairs without extreme curling would look good on mature women who wish to appear youthful.
Superior quality hair gel, wax and hair cream help control fullness of the hair. Shiny natural colors of hair dye help a mature woman development youthful look. Moisturizers help disguise wrinkles and lines on elderly women’s faces. Therefore despite aging, women can be attractive and get pleasure from the bountiful satisfaction granted during their existence.
Life Begins At 40
As the adage goes, life begins at 40. Your face may no longer glow with youth like it did when you were still in your twenties, and your body may no longer be as supple as it used to be.
Probably, there are some sags and bulges where none used to be. But despite the ravages of time on her physique, the fact is that a woman in her 40s is much more interesting than a woman in her twenties. She is more seasoned, poised, confident and wise. She knows what she wants and is not afraid to go for it. She has a more definite sense of style ? that is, if she allowed herself to develop it. Sadly, many women simply let themselves go when they reach their 40s. They no longer bother to update their hairstyle and wardrobes. A woman in her 40s may think that because she is not getting any younger anymore, there is no longer any purpose to going out of her way to m
ake herself look good. But that shouldn?t be the case. There is no reason why a woman in her 40s can?t look good. It?s just a way of knowing how. The first step to looking fabulous at 40 is accepting that you are no longer young and that you cannot turn back the time. The most sophisticated methods of nipping and tucking and other forms of cosmetic surgery will not stop your aging. Face it and let yourself age gracefully.
In relation to this, bear in mind that whatever worked for you in your twenties will no longer work for you now. You shouldn’t worry anymore about following fashion trends either, which has always been more geared towards the young. Besides, dressing young will only have the opposite effect on you: it will just emphasize your age and make you look old. Instead, you should start developing a signature style for yourself. As you settle into your 40s, there are a few things you should start avoiding. A mini-skirt is one of them. Sure, your legs may still look great. Legs always look great because they are among the parts of our body that age the slowest, but there is nothing sadder to look at than a woman in her 40s wearing those short skirts.
Also, try to stay clear of baggy clothes, and instead opt for clothes that would flatter your body?s shape, despite the thickening and the sags. Once you begin to realize that you do indeed have to start letting go of your young-ish ways and to begin dressing your age, like a stylish woman in her 40s, here are tips that will help you create your signature look:
Frugal Fashion Statements
Frugal fashion statements and how you can make them. Downsizing, layoffs, outsourcing, and soaring interest rates are a testament to the shift our economy is taking, the latest fashion trends, and the high price of looking good are putting a damper on the spirits of women in the 35 to 55 age set. What’s a woman to do? During the 1900’s we witnessed the rebirth of Capri pants, bell bottoms, mini skirts, short tanks and sheer tops, along with platform shoes and spiked heels.
Those are not the descriptive devices that the younger generations use, but this is our image, and that age group needs to go get its own. When we so called older women walk into a Dillard’s, JC Penny’s, and even a Wal-Mart store we are rudely awakened to the fact that today’s styles, cuts, and sizes are geared to the anorexic generation X set. Generally what we witness does not have any real sense of style, taste, or class.
We know what styles work well with us as individuals so, how do we reset our own trend while cognizant of the value of the shrinking American dollar? Cosmetics can be found at reasonable prices these days; a basic foundation, blush, under eye cover-up, and mascara are about all that is needed to lay claim to our former youth. Just remember to blush at the top of the cheekbone, not the hollow of the cheek. Nails that are trimmed, buffed, and glossed are a contemporary fashion statement and used in conjunction with the minimalist makeup look provide us a classy, clean cut persona.
The latest fashions for women, misses, and plus sizes can be had for pennies on the dollar from my favorite store Kohl’s during its end of season sale. I’ve walked out of that store sporting Croft and Barrow’s and Gloria Vanderbilt clothes and shoe styles that look good on me for up to 80% of the original retail price. So, what if I am a season behind! Another type of store to consider is thrift, Goodwill, and high end second hand or consignment stores (the latter are the cast offs of the not so money conscious high end shopper). You can find authentic leather bags for less money than you pay for an entire outfit; however, you can purchase coats, slacks, tops, shoes, and accessories ( if you are a little thick in the waist a wide style belt will accentuate your curves) that are not too far out of fashion and still fit within your budget.
I’ve found some pretty sweet deals on clothing with the original retail price tags still intact at consignment stores. Hairstyles basically amount to what you know works with your personality, face shape, and your personal fashion style. Highlights do wonders for dull bland hair colors and you can do your own for under $10.00. All you need is a style at a reasonable price, and a Fiesta or Famous Hair have sweet young things waiting for the opportunity to give you a look that is contemporary, age appropriate, and professional or stylish. The bottom line is just that; you know your bottom line and now you know how you can be trendy, fashionable, and tastefully decorated without breaking the bank.
Clothes, Make Up, Hair and Body Type Tips
When it comes to clothes, hair, make-up, skin & body type? You could say i am there. I being a mom in my 40s know about budget right now. I buy my clothes from yard sales in the spring and summer time. You would be surprised at the bargains and clothes you can find out there that are in really pretty good shape. With the economy right now most woman over the age of 35 and up are very conscious about how much to buy and how to watch for bargains.
Department stores are becoming more budget friendly these days. If you look they are there. Even designer brands that have been marked down so far that you will want to buy it. Hair is another story in itself. Hair to woman and how it looks is very important. If you are a soccer mom, carpool mom, etc then you are on the run. You want your hair to be in the ready set go mode. You need to run your comb through your hair and get a hair barrette and go. I being a busy mom does that from time to time.
If i am going somewhere that i want to have my hair looking like i just stepped out of a salon then sure i will do what i can on a budget which always works. Woman like to pamper themselves by going to the salons and the manicures and pedicures as well. We love to be pampered. On a budget yes you can do it and look good while doing it on a budget. Make-up has become more budget friendly as well and the not so heavy when putting it on. It goes on much lighter then it use to.
Finding the right colors you need to be careful and make sure it is for your skin type and matches your tones. Never want to get something that will make you have lines and look to dark or to pale. Woman as we get older we want to have our skin looking so and young. Using creams and moisturizers always take care of that. DO not get anything to heavy but something that feels light but will accent your skins tones. Lotion can make you or break you. If you have dry skin you need something of course for dry skin. Aging creams work well for those who want to get rid of a few fine lines in the face without going out to get plastic surgery or Botox and pay the money for that.
Buying the creams from your favorite department store or cosmetic store will work as they will usually have good prices right now. You can even try the drugstores and places such as that. Just know that fashion and hair and make up for us woman over 35 to 55 plus is never out of our reach. Just finding the right places to go and on the budget friendly you need right now to achieve that look will come forth.
Should You Sacrifice Your Style During a Recession?
Most of us in our age group have long since defined our own sense of style. We are not held in thrall by fad, but instead rely on the elements of good fashion, and perhaps classic tailoring, to define our working wardrobes. At no time does our sense of fashion sensibility ring truer than during times of recession.
Most of us have lived through more than one by now, and we recognize the gravity of spending our dollars wisely during these periods. When we examine our wardrobes at change of season, it is a good time to take stock of how many and what kind of clothing we really will be wearing for the next several months. While good advice at any time, during a recession it becomes even more critical to stretch that clothing budget. By sticking to what looks great on us, tried and true designs, we can invest wisely in accessories that will make our outfits look newer. Rather than buying a fancy blouse to go with our standard basic grey or black skirt for the new season, it might be wiser to invest in shoes, or a purse that takes us into contemporary times.
Speaking of skirts, have the hemlines shifted from last year? A great piece of clothing can do another year’s service by simply altering the hemline to bring it into contemporary styling. If you cannot do your own hems, ask your friends if they know a good seamstress who can. Any money you can save by not purchasing a new skirt will go a long way toward improving your budget. Another area I would like to address in this essay is hair. Because recessions are so very hard on money, trips to the hair salon cannot be as frequent. As a result, I save money by wearing styles that are easy to keep up until my hair budget improves.
Because many of us older ladies have thinning hair, an investment in a good wig is not a bad idea. Often you can find them online on sale. Just get a style that is close to what you are wearing, and you’ll be able to stretch between cuts a bit longer. These are but two of the budget conscious ideas I have used during hard times. You can still look great if you just plan how to do it.
